I Almost Quit Carrd!

Why I'm glad I didn't sell my Carrd Business.

You're getting this email because at some point, you subscribed via one of my Carrd websites (most likely templates.carrd.co).

If you're thinking "who is this person again?" or "I don't remember signing up for this" – no worries! Feel free to unsubscribe at the bottom of this email.

Zero hard feelings. ✌️

For everyone still reading: you're safe from the upcoming purge. I'm about to hit my free-plan limit on Beehiiv, so I'll be cleaning up the list soon.

Consider yourself part of the VIP crew that's sticking around! 👑

(Quick aside: If you're thinking about starting your own newsletter, Beehiiv is genuinely awesome. Not sponsored, just a fan.)

The Time I Almost Sold Everything

Late last year, I did something that might surprise you – I put all my Carrd sites up for sale.

These sites weren't failing. They were bringing in decent passive income each month and getting about 50,000 views annually. But I'd been neglecting updates and felt someone else could probably do a better job than me.

I've been using Carrd since 2018, built a newsletter with nearly 2,500 subscribers (that's you!), and created templates that thousands of people have used. Yet something wasn't clicking.

Here's the weird part… in all those years, my Carrd presence had generated ZERO paid work for my main agency business. Not because it couldn't, but because I'd never set it up that way. I was so focused on the templates that I completely missed the bigger picture.

The Universe's Wake-Up Call

Then January happened. Within just a couple of weeks, I received three solid leads for custom website design – all from people who found me through my Carrd sites.

It was like the universe slapped me in the face and said, "Dude, you're looking at this all wrong."

That's when it hit me. 🥊 I didn't need to sell my Carrd business – I needed to reimagine it.

The Pivot That Changed Everything

Fast forward to today, and my Carrd sites are now strategically set up to generate leads for my main business – custom website design and marketing for small/local businesses.

This simple shift in perspective has:

  1. Completely renewed my enthusiasm

  2. Generated actual, paying clients

  3. Given me the motivation to start making YouTube videos again

  4. Inspired me to dust off this newsletter after not sending anything since 2023!

Speaking of YouTube, I've just uploaded a video on how I ‘vibe coded’ a custom Carrd Menu. A subscribe would be appreciated. 😉]

Why Listen To Me?

I've been in the Carrd ecosystem since 2018, built a decent following, and have helped thousands of people create their own web presence.

Whilst this newsletter will be sticking with Carrd as the main theme, I’ll be diving into other tools and solutions to help you grow your own web-based businesses.

Think of me as a fellow traveler who's a few steps ahead on certain paths, happy to shine a light on what I'm seeing.

The Catalyst You Might Need

I can't explain why I suddenly got that influx of leads in January. Sometimes the universe just gives you a nudge when you need it most. 🌌

But here's what I do know… If you've been working on projects that feel stagnant, you might not need to abandon them. You might just need to look at them differently.

Ask yourself:

  • What if my current project isn't the end goal but a pathway to something else?

  • What if I'm so focused on one revenue stream that I'm missing five others?

  • What if the audience I've already built could be served in a completely different way?

Sometimes the breakthrough isn't finding something new – it's seeing what you already have through fresh eyes.

What's Next?

If any of this resonates with you, stick around as I’ll be sharing more on my journey to help you progress on yours.

And if you're working on something that feels stuck, hit reply and tell me about it. Maybe a fresh perspective is all you need.

Until next time,

Alex ✌️

P.S. Sometimes the best business decision is the one you don't make. I'm incredibly grateful I didn't sell my Carrd sites. What are you doing that might just need a different approach rather than quitting?
